Borrowed from Old Church Slavonic боровьць (borovĭcĭ), from боровъ (borovŭ) +‎ -ьць (-ĭcĭ), from боръ (borŭ) +‎ -овъ (-ovŭ), from Proto-Slavic *borъ (“pine”). Compare Bulgarian Боровец (Borovec).
