[edit]boreo- (“northern”) + Latin pelta f (“pelta, small shield”), so called because it was found in central Siberia.

- A taxonomic genus within the family Rhytidosteidae – an extinct genus of rhytidosteid temnospondyl of the Olenekian, found as a skull and jaw fossil in central Siberia. The only species is Boreopelta vavilovi.
Usage notes
[edit]Not to be confused with another fossil taxon, Borealopelta, of similar etymology.
