Named after Michael Stanley Clive Birbeck, who described it in 1961.

  1. (anatomy, ultrastructure) A rod or tennis racket-shaped cytoplasmic organelle solely found in Langerhans cells and hence a marker for Langerhans cell histiocytoses.
