[edit]Etymology
[edit]The German name Bartenstein, historically also attested as Bartstein, was originally Polonised as Barsztyn, a name in use from the mid-18th century. The Bart- in Bartenstein refers to the Bartians, an Old Prussian tribe who lived in the area, but was later reinterpreted as deriving from the given name Bartosz, hence the modern name of the town.[1]
