[edit]First attested as Het Erfscheiden Veen in 1851-1855. Compound of the adjective Barger ("pertaining to Noordbarge and Zuidbarge") and a compound toponym derived from erfscheider (“person appointed to determine the boundaries of a property”) and veen (“peat bog, marsh”).
