- The major coal mine now serving Ulaanbaatar—at Baganuur—is a two hour drive west of the capital. Baganuur has a couple of surprisingly nice hotels, which cater to the foreign technical advisors who periodically inspect the mine. The town is just off the eastbound highway to Khentii Aimag.
