[edit]The name was changed from the local name سيقريق (Sıkrık) within the scope of Turkishizing place names in the last period of the Ottoman Empire. Locals also call the village Sikrik. Generally the people in Rize can't pronounce Turkish ı sounds well and pronounce it with a sound between Turkish i and ı sounds. And that's possible pronunciation change of Sıkrık.
Directly means teacher from Azak. According to local people, there was a teacher from Azak and Ottoman named the village as him. Azak is the old name of Azov. Azak also the name of the Sea of Azov in Turkish. (see Azak Denizi)
