[edit]If I add words here, I want to add the oddly specific words that have no easy translation ... I remember one word, doroledim (“to overeat from stress and regret it”), that requires an entire paragraph in the original dictionary. But e.g. raweshalh (“non-gestalt ”) could be a word people use in English. The language is full of words like these. I dont know. Some part of me wants to keep the words out of Wiktionary out of respect for the author. Anyone have any thoughts? —Soap— 04:08, 7 February 2020 (UTC)
- Suzette Haden Elgin published multiple guides to Láadan, not only in book form in exchange for money, but for free on her website. Her daughter continued this practice. It seems clear to me they both wanted the language to be understood and learned by many people, as part of the project of understanding how and if language changes our thinking about the world. There is already wikibooks:en:Láadan, which I believe to be respectful of the original works and the overall intent (note I have not made any significant edits to that wikibook yet); I also believe Wiktionary can assist. - Okay thank you. I've found a new hobby to occupy my time but I may get back to this .... and if not, this brief discussion may encourage others to join in. Best regards, —Soap— 21:32, 6 October 2020 (UTC)
- A couple have! Hopefully this effort continues bit by bit. Arlo Barnes (talk) 10:08, 29 November 2021 (UTC)
- It would seem that as per Wiktionary:Votes/pl-2020-12/CFI_for_appendix-only_conlangs, conlangs are still subject to the CFI policy even in the appendix, so it wouldnt be permissible to simply copy words from a dictionary. We would need to find written material in Láadan using the words we want to add. Láadan has been used outside the novels, so in theory other words should be attestable, but I think it's best to let it be. —Soap— 14:52, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
