Sindarin
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Modified from rhandir in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Noldorin’), itself modified from yet earlier amraith and earlier still amrog in ‘Gnomish’. Diegetically explained as derived from a Primitive Elvish root *ran- (‘to wander, stray, err’) + Sindarin dîr (“man, male”).
