Sindarin
[edit]Etymology
[edit]Modified from lûg (‘snake’) and ulug (‘dragon’) in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Gnomish’). Diegetically explained as inherited from Primitive Elvish *slōkō, and so cognate to Quenya hlócë; however, the latter shows irregular development in its final vowel, instead suggesting Primitive Elvish *slōkī.
Noun
[edit]lhûg • m~Mx (plural lhuig)
