Sindarin

Pronunciation

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Diegetically explained as derived from a Primitive Elvish root *karap- (‘talk, speech’), and so cognate to Quenya carpa-. However, in the early 1960s Tolkien apparently abandoned this root in favor of *pakat-, which would be expected to yield Sindarin paetha-, Quenya pahta-, replacing these words.
