Sindarin

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Modified from alf in Tolkien’s earlier conception of the language (‘Noldorin’), itself modified from yet earlier alfa and earlier still alcwi in ‘Gnomish’. Diegetically explained as inherited from Ancient Telerin alpa, from Primitive Elvish *alkwā, and so cognate to Quenya alqua and Telerin alpa.

Noun

[edit]

alph • j#e (plural eilph)

  1. swan
