[edit]
The littera rule[1]
A sound change where /VːC/ invalid IPA characters (VC) became /VCː/ invalid IPA characters (VC), i.e. where a long vowel became short and caused the next consonant to geminate, such as littera from earlier lītera, or Iuppiter from earlier Iūpiter.
