Appendix:Kamba numbers

In , the system of creating numbers is very simple and can be easily done. Though, all cardinal numbers are still inflected by the noun that they are referring to.

Cardinal Numbers

In Kamba, cardinal numbers are inflected just as nouns would be. In Kamba, after 10, where in English we would add "-teen" at the end of the final number (except for eleven and twelve), "ikumi na -" is added before the number that is in question. (e.g. ikumi na keri, sixteen)
In all cases, the number follows the noun. For example:

Mundu yumwe, one man
Imanda idatu, three cakes

When an adjective is used to act upon the noun, the number will come after the adjective. For example:

Mundu mucheo yumwe, one good man
Matumbi manini thandatu, six small eggs

Ordinal numbers are expressed by the use of the preposition -a after the noun, except for first and last, which have their own number.
