Etymology
[edit]Gikun word derived by applying Chinese-derived spelling 黒暗 (“absolute darkness”), a term which decomposes into 黒 (“black”) + 暗 (“darkness”), to native Japanese word やみ (yami, “darkness”).
Noun
[edit]黒暗 / 黑暗[1] (yami) → 闇 (yami), 黒暗(kokuan)
- ※ Ordinarily, this word would have been written 闇 (yami), however, it was no ordinary darkness which existed before the creation of light.
