Etymology
[edit]Gikun word derived by applying Chinese-derived spelling 美容 (“beauty”, (of personal appearance), a term which decomposes into 美 (“beauty”) + 容 (“appearance”), to native Japanese word meaning simply beauty, うるはしき and thus denoting beauty of personal appearance.
