Compound of 生ける (ikeru, the 連体形 (rentaikei, “attributive form”) of verb 生ける (ikeru), “to have life”) +‎ 者 (mono, “person”), applying the 義訓 (gikun, “meaning reading”) to 生霊 (seirei, “soul”).
