Etymology
[edit]Gikun word derived by applying Chinese-derived spelling 満盈 (“filled to capacity”), a term which decomposes into 満 (“full”) + 盈 (“fill”), to native Japanese verb みつ (mitsu, “to fill”).
Verb
[edit]- ※ Note: みて (mite) is the imperative form of みつ (mitsu, be filled). Two kanji with similar sense forming 満盈, mite, emphasizing the imperative (みてよ, miteyo) in Genesis 1:22;28.
- ※ See also 充牣 (mite). There are two gikun versions of みて (mite) in Genesis 1 emphasizing God's command that the earth be filled with plants and living creatures.
Quotations
