Etymology
[edit]Gikun word derived by applying Chinese-derived spelling 携 (“lead by the hand/carry”), to native Japanese verb つれきたる (tsurekitaru), a compound of 連れ (tsure, “taking someone, accompanying someone”, the 連用形 (ren'yōkei, “continuative or stem form”) of verb 連れる tsureru) + 来たる (kitaru, “to come to a person or place”).
