Etymology
[edit]Gikun word derived by applying Chinese-derived spelling 劬労 (“hard labor, toil”), a term which decomposes into 劬 (“toil”) + 苦 (“difficult, painful, hard”), to native Japanese word くるしみ (kurushimi, “pain, suffering, sorrows”).
