From Medieval Latin Aluitti, genitive of Aluittus, Aloyttus, one of the most common names in Galicia in the High Middle Ages,[1] from a Suevic and/or Gothic personal name, a compound, from Proto-Germanic *allaz (all) + *witją (knowledge):[2] "Alwitt's".
