[edit]From Medieval Latin Arvaldi, genitive of Arvaldus,[1] from a Suevic or Gothic personal name, from Proto-Germanic *Harjawaldaz, a compound of Proto-Germanic *harjaz (“army; warrior”) + *waldą (“autority”).[2]
