From Medieval Latin Arvaldi, genitive of Arvaldus,[1] from a Suevic or Gothic personal name, from Proto-Germanic *Harjawaldaz, a compound of Proto-Germanic *harjaz (army; warrior) + *waldą (autority).[2]
