Etymology
[edit]Alaus m + Latin oculātus m (“eyed; having eye(s)”), literally “eyed Alaus”, as the species is notable for the large false eyes on its thorax. Originally named Elater oculatus, later transferred into the genus Alaus.

[edit]- A taxonomic species within the tribe Hemirhipini – the eastern eyed click beetle or eyed elater, known for the large false eyes on its thorax.
