Etymology
[edit]Uncertain. Possibly from ahven (“perch”) + maa (“land”), the first term can possibly be derived from Proto-Norse ᚨᚺᚹᚨᛚᚨᚾᛞ (ahwaland, “water-land”). See Finnish Ahvenanmaa for further etymology.
