Noun

[edit]

ALSer (plural ALSers)

  1. (informal, medicine) A person with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
    • 1993, Dennis Kaye, “The Big Lie”, in Laugh, I Thought I'd Die: My Life With ALS, Toronto: Viking, →ISBN, page 39:
One seldom sees words like “deadbeat” or “lazy” used in the same sentence with ALS. In fact, one of the only traits ALSers seem to share is an energetic past. In almost every case, victims are either classic over-achievers or chronic workaholics.
  2. (Internet slang) A participant in the Usenet newsgroup alt.life.sucks.
    • 1998 February 26, Vince, “Re: Spirituality Survey”, in alt.life.sucks[1] (Usenet):
Good point. A blanket apology would be a good place to start if he really wants to be an ALSer. [] It will take a year or two to post the HUGE number of apologies he owes ALSers.
