From a Slavic suffix meaning "son of", such as Belarusian -віч (-vič, “-vich”), Russian -вич (-vič, “-vich”), Serbo-Croatian -vić, Slovene -vič, or Ukrainian -вич (-vyč, “-vych”), all from Proto-Slavic *-vъ + *-iťь.
