-számra (adverb-forming suffix)

  1. In a number or mass corresponding to a multiple of the round number defined by the base word. Usually used with round numbers, such as száz (hundred), ezer (thousand), etc.
    Az emberek százszámra zúdultak be az üzletekbe.People flocked to the shops by the hundreds.
  2. Per unit of quantity, measure or time specified in the base word.
    Darabszámra fizetik a munkámat.My work is paid by the piece.
  3. In a large amount, by the unit of measure expressed in the base word.
    Zsákszámra veszik a lisztet.They buy the flour by the bag.
    A cikk megjelenése után tucatszámra kaptuk a leveleket.After the publication of the article, we received letters by the dozen.
