[edit]From Proto-Athabaskan *kʸaˑn (“rain”). Possibly related to the root -TSĄĄD (“to be pregnant”).
Navajo níłtsą́ (“rain”) originates from this root. Other cognates are found in Ahtna caan (“rain”), Dena'ina kun (“rain”), Koyukon konh (“rain”) and Hupa kyangkyoh (“hailstorm”).
