[edit]Etymology 1
[edit]This root only occurs in a neuter perfective base which serves as an enclitic word attached to a noun stem. The original meaning of this root appears to be reduced or abbreviated, but nowadays it refers to the hoarseness and stubbiness of ears and horns of animals, and to the change of voice during adolescence. Probably cognate with -CHʼĮ́Į́DÍ (“to be few”).
