Possibly inherited from Middle Korean (-a-, causative suffix?). Alternatively, possibly formed via reanalysis from (-u-, causative suffix).

  1. (Southern Gyeongsang) Derives certain causative verbs, especially for stems ending in ㅣ (i). No longer productive.
    널찌다 (neoljjida, to fall) + ‎ (-a-) → ‎널짜다 (neoljjada, to drop; to cause to fall)

Many Gyeongsang verbs formed by (-a-) correspond to a Seoul form with (-u-).
