[edit]Possibly a deverbal of the causative suffix -आना (-ānā), which, in Old Hindi, had a -v- in many forms, like the Old Hindi -आवै (-āvai, first-person), from Sauraseni Prakrit -𑀆𑀯𑁂𑀤𑀺 (-āvedi) (compare Marathi -आवणे (-āvṇe)). Compare Punjabi -ਆਅ (-āa).
