Tlingit

Suffix

[edit]

-ÿí

  1. possessive marker

Usage notes

[edit]
  • In practice, the suffix takes one of the following forms: í/i, ú/u, wú/wu, or yí/yi, depending on the quality and tone of the preceding syllable. The phoneme marked by ÿ is no longer present in surviving dialects of Tlingit, but is marked as such to clarify the otherwise unpredictable stem change.
