Chinese
[edit]Glyph origin
[edit]Naming taboo (避諱 / 避讳); the last stroke in 燁 / 烨 (yè) was omitted to avoid using the same character in the Kangxi Emperor's personal name, which was 玄燁 / 玄烨.
This also produced 𤣥 (xuán) < 玄 (xuán).
Definitions
[edit]For pronunciation and definitions of 𤍞 – see 燁 (“bright; magnificent; glorious”). (This character is a variant form of 燁). |
