Etymology
[edit]A black (colourless) pixelated ring was part of the first ever emoji set by the Japanese phone carrier SoftBank in November 1997. Later included in the emoji sets of au by KDDI and Docomo in 2002, American company Apple in 2008, and standardised in Unicode 6.0 in October 2010.
