[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

From the typical ASL method of referring to something by pointing to it (deixis).

Production

[edit]
  • This one-handed ASL sign is produced as follows:
    1. Posture the dominant hand in the “1” handshape about half an arm’s length in front of the shoulder, dominant palm facing down.
    2. Hold the hand still briefly.
  • The sign may also be produced with different palm orientations, but if the radial (thumb-side) edge of the hand faces up, this sign becomes a homophone for 1@InsideChesthigh-RadialUp (you, he, she, it).
