[edit]According to Jaan Puhvel, possibly related to Ancient Greek ฯแฟกฬฯฯ (phลซฬrล, โto mixโ), because mud is a mixture of clay and water, thus both reflecting pseudo-PIE *bสฐur-u-t-.
