    Inherited from Sanskrit फुप्फुस (phupphusa), फुफुस (phuphusa), पुप्फुस (pupphusa, lung), ultimately onomatopoeic and related to several words involving the sound of blowing air, including फुत्कार (phutkāra, huffing, hissing), पुप्फुल (pupphula, flatulency), and फुप्फुकारक (phupphukāraka, panting, gasping). Cognate with Pali papphāsa.
