[edit]From 𐼀𐼀𐼄𐼀𐼊𐼌 (ʾʾɣʾyδ), 𐫀𐫀𐫄𐫀𐫏𐫔 (ʾʾɣʾyδ /āɣēδ/, “to wish, demand”), from Proto-Iranian *āgādáyati,[1] from *aH- + *gādáyati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *gʰādʰáyati, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰodʰ-éye-ti, from *gʷʰedʰ- (“to ask, wish”) + *-éyeti.
