[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tạrïg (“millet”). Cognate with Chuvash тырӑ (tyră), Turkish darı, Uzbek tariq, Bashkir тары (tarı), Khakas тарығ (tarığ). Compare also Mongolian тариа (taria), a Turkic borrowing.
