[edit]Inherited from Proto-Turkic *siarïg (“yellow; white”). Cognate to Chuvash шурӑ (šură, “white”), Khalaj sâruğ, Turkish sarı, Uzbek sariq, Bashkir һары (harı), Yakut араҕас (arağas). Compare also Mongolian шар (šar) as well as Hungarian sárga, a Turkic borrowing.
