Inherited from Proto-Turkic *yūrt (camping-site). Cognate with Chuvash ҫурт (śurt), Khalaj yûrt, Turkish yurt, Uzbek yurt, Bashkir йорт (yort), Yakut сурт (surt). Compare also Russian ю́рта (júrta), a Turkic borrowing.
