Etymology
[edit]Probably from *𐭀𐭓𐭊 (*ʾrk /*arg/, “fortress”) (compare Persian ارگ (arg, “citadel”)) and the suffix 𐭐𐭕𐭉 (pty /-bed/, “commander”). Cognate with Middle Persian 𐭧𐭫𐭢𐭥𐭯𐭲 (hlgwpt /hargbed/).
