𐑣 U+10463, 𐑣
SHAVIAN LETTER HA-HA
𐑢
[U+10462]
Shavian 𐑤
[U+10464]

English

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

A rotated letter 𐑙 /ŋ/, from the jocular suggestion that English /h/ and /ŋ/ are allophones.

Letter

[edit]

𐑣 (h)

  1. (Shavian) the sound /h/.

Usage notes

[edit]

There is an argument that ⟨𐑣⟩ h and 𐑙 ng should have the opposite readings, and perhaps reflect a printer's error, because otherwise voiceless consonants have ascenders and their voiced partners have descenders. Some books have been published with this opposite assignment.
