Etymology

Either cognate with Persian ุจุงุฎุชุฑ (bรขxtar, โ€œwestโ€) and Avestan ๐ฌ ๐ฌ๐ฌ‘๐ฌœ๐ฌŒ (bฤxฮดi), or possibly Bฤxtriลก (โ€œshe who dividesโ€) from the name of the river ฮ’ฮฌฮบฯ„ฯฮฟฯ‚ (Bรกktros), itself derived from the root *bhag- (โ€œto divideโ€) (cf. Sanskrit เคญเคœเฅ (bhรกj-), Avestan ๐ฌ ๐ฌ€๐ฌ” (bag)).[1]
