[edit]Possibly from 𐎢 (u /ʰu-/, “good”) + *tānaʰ (“tone, melody”), from Proto-Iranian *tā́nah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tā́nas, from Proto-Indo-European *tónos. Cognate with Sanskrit सुतान (sutā́na, “well-tuned, melodious”).
