Possibly from 𐎢 (u /⁠ʰu-⁠/, good) +‎ *tānaʰ (tone, melody), from Proto-Iranian *tā́nah, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tā́nas, from Proto-Indo-European *tónos. Cognate with Sanskrit सुतान (sutā́na, well-tuned, melodious).
