Etymology

Literally "dwellers of the mountain-land",[1] from *Δ€kaufaka- + *-(i)ya- (adjectival suffix). *Δ€kaufaka- itself is composed of *ā- (β€œto”) + *kaufa- (β€œmountain”) + *-ka- (hypocoristic suffix).
