Uncertain; attested also in Arabic suggesting a Proto-Semitic source with no known intermediaries; the root Arabic Ψ― ΨΊ Ψ΅ (d αΈ‘ αΉ£) denoting "to be full or bursting", "to be satisfied or surfeited", "to do something quickly especially drinking", "to choke"; also a shallow pool of water, clear water, and the patella possibly from it being likened to a shallow pan or its ability to move around being likened to being surrounded in a pool of fluid.
