Gothic
[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Germanic *tahrฤ , from Proto-Indo-European *dรกแธฑru-. The h/g alternation (due to Verner's law) in the Proto-Germanic forms has disappeared in Gothic through morphological leveling. Cognates include Latin lacruma, Ancient Greek ฮดฮฌฮบฯฯ (dรกkru), Old English tฤar, and Sanskrit เค เคถเฅเคฐเฅ (aลru).
