Etymology

[edit]

Unclear. Near-cognates are found in Old English cynewiΓΎΓΎe and Old High German kunawid, but these do not correspond exactly to the Gothic form or to each other. Has also been connected to Sanskrit ΰ€—ΰ₯ΰ€£ (guαΉ‡a, β€œstring”).
