[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *ud-ลr, *ud-n- (โwaterโ).[1][2] Cognate with Ancient Greek แฝฮดฯฯ (hรบdลr). The -d- did not rhotacise into -rฬ- by dissimilation of the following -r.[3][4]
